New Assistant Principal at Huntington Middle School

San Marino Unified School District (SMUSD)’s Board of Education recently approved Superintendent Cherniss’s recommendation to promote Mrs. Alana Faure to the position of Assistant Principal at Huntington Middle School. The middle school position was left vacant after former incumbent Mr. Michael Lin was hired to take over as the new Carver Elementary School Principal.

Mrs. Faure was hired in September of 1990 by then Middle School Principal Chuck Johnson to serve ESL students in grades K-8. In 1991, she went to work as an elementary school teacher at Carver where she served primarily as a third grade teacher, ELD Coordinator and BTSA Liaison until receiving a well-deserved promotion in August of 2014 to the position of Elementary School Assistant Principal where she has served both Carver and Valentine Elementary Schools for the last two years.

Mrs. Faure earned her Bachelor’s Degree at California Polytechnic University Pomona and her Master’s Degree in Educational Management from the University of La Verne.

On a personal note, Mrs. Faure grew up in Taiwan and speaks conversational Mandarin. She is married to her husband AJ and has three children, all of whom attended San Marino Schools.

Mrs. Faure said: “I feel honored to be selected as the new Assistant Principal at Huntington Middle School. I already know so many HMS students as I’ve previously been involved with their educational development at the elementary level. I believe that my experience, vision, and contributions as an educator and leader will build on the legacy of excellence at Huntington Middle School.”

Dr. Cherniss said: “Over the span of her career, Mrs. Faure has served the District in many different roles. She has superior communication and leadership skills and is well respected by parents and students alike. Mrs. Faure is a charismatic and strategic leader who is passionate about seeing students succeed in the classroom and beyond. Her enthusiasm for 21st century learning is infectious, and I am confident that she will be a tremendous asset at Huntington Middle School.”

“The Board is very impressed by Alana’s education, experience, and leadership skills. We believe that Alana has the qualities to provide strong leadership support, working alongside Principal Kurtenbach to implement the Board’s vision of a school that develops middle school students who are ready for the challenges of the 21st century, building on the best of our traditions whilst opening students’ eyes to new ways of thinking and working together and encouraging them to be fearless learners,” San Marino Board President Nam Jack said.
