Pasadena High School AP Bio Students Investigate Why Organisms Rely on Small Cells

Why are large organisms composed of billions of small cells? Pasadena High School’s AP Biology students tackled this question by investigating diffusion rates in different-sized cells. Using beet slices to simulate cells and bleach as a diffusing agent, they explored how cell size impacts diffusion efficiency, providing insight into why organisms rely on numerous small cells rather than fewer large ones.
