Pasadena Waldorf School Introduces New Clover Parent-Child Program for Families with Babies
The new Clover Parent-Child class is for families with children three months and older. Based on the respectful caregiving approach of early childhood education pioneers Emmi Pikler and Magda Gerber, this class will support families through the first three years of the child’s life. Parents and children will meet for 90 minutes, once a week, until the children enter preschool.
Pasadena Waldorf School (PWS) view children as whole humans from the time they are born. Fundamental to its class is observation, seeing the children as they are and reading their needs. We will learn to recognize and support children’s innate intelligence, creativity and competence. PWS will see how all the sides of your child fit together and look at how you and your family – whatever your situation – can work together as a whole.
Alongside other babies at similar ages and developmental levels, the children will have the opportunity for self-directed experimentation through free play. This allows for the fullest development of their senses, gross and fine motor skills, social interaction and authentic communication, while gradually learning to adjust to limits, boundaries and expectations.
Parents and caregivers will have the opportunity to share experiences and questions with support from the facilitator and each other. Together we will practice care that supports them respectfully and holistically in ways that are sustainable and realistic for parents. These practices translate to life outside the classroom – increasing our effectiveness as parents, and bringing a deepening connection to our relationships. We will learn how the approach can scale up as a child grows, serving as the foundation for an ever-changing life-long relationship.
Current Session March 29 – May 18
Ages 3-7 months: Tuesdays 9-10:30 a.m.
Ages 7-12 months: Wednesdays 9-10:30 a.m.
