Polytechnic School: Science of Solubility

In today’s lab Polytechnic School’s seventh grade students conducted a solubility test to determine an unknown substance. Looking at salt, MSG, epsom salt, sugar, and the unknown, students mixed each substance with water to observe how much of each substance would be dissolved. From this exercise the students were able to rule out two possibilities for the unknown substance. Confirmation on the two remaining possibilities were made after each substance re-crystallized.
