Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) celebrates the 2026 Teachers of Excellence this Teacher Appreciation Week (May 4-8, 2026).

Michael Birnbryer-Lao of Blair High School is the 2026 Teacher of the Year, and stands alongside four Teachers of Excellence: Jocelyn Strickland (Jackson Elementary), Ani Karapetyan (Eliot Arts Magnet), Maria Barajas (Hamilton Elementary), and Sonia Covarrubias (Willard Elementary).

Each of these educators reflects the dedication and care that define PUSD classrooms, creating meaningful learning experiences and strong connections with students every day. Their commitment not only supports academic growth, but also helps inspire confidence, creativity, and a lifelong love of learning among students throughout the district. We thank them, and all PUSD teachers, for the lasting impact they make across our schools. “We are PUSD proud!”
