PUSD Names Dr. Ella Farinas New Assistant Principal at Octavia E. Butler Magnet for 2024-25



Shannon Malone, Ed.D., recently announced the appointment of Ella Farinas, Ed.D., as the new Assistant Principal for Octavia E. Butler Magnet for the 2024-25 school year.

Dr. Farinas, who currently serves as PUSD’s TK-12 STEM Equity and Integration Specialist, returns to OEB with extensive experience in instructional leadership. Her previous roles at OEB included serving as an instructional coach, AVID and GATE coordinator, and language development resource teacher. With a National Certificate for STEM Teaching and a doctorate in Educational Leadership for Social Justice from Loyola Marymount University, Dr. Farinas is dedicated to educational excellence and equity.

Dr. Farinas expressed, “I am thrilled to be coming home to Octavia E. Butler Magnet. Over the years, OEB has cultivated a rich and supportive culture that I am honored to help continue and strengthen. Together with new Principal Arian Whitley, we will continue building on this strong foundation and foster an environment where every student can thrive. I am eager to collaborate with our exceptional staff, supportive families, and talented students to create new opportunities for growth and success.”

As previously announced, Arian Whitley will begin his tenure as principal of OEB on July 1, 2024, pending Board of Education approval. The community also extends its gratitude to Noemi Orduña for her dedicated service as principal since 2022; she will transition to an assistant principal role at Pasadena High School.
