PUSD Spelling Bee Champions

PUSD salutes the un”bee”lieveable spelling skills that fourth, fifth and sixth grade students demonstrated at the District Spelling Bee in January. Schools selected the five best spellers in grades 4, 5 and six to take part in the district competition.

Learning to spell helps cement the connection between letters and their sounds, and improves both reading and writing. The more deeply and thoroughly a student knows a word, the more likely he or she is to recognize, spell, define, and use it appropriately in speech and writing.

Spelling Bee Maia Rosenbaum, a sixth grader at Marshall Fundamental Secondary School (center) placed first. Jasmine Sov, a fifth grader at Sierra Madre Elementary placed second; Jayme O’Neal, a sixth grader at Wilson Middle School, was third. The first place winner will compete in the Los Angeles County Spelling Bee in March.
