Ramona Convent Secondary School Celebrate Banned Books Week and the Freedom to Read at the Library

Book Club members have a secret to share. They read banned books! Holding some of their favorite titles Front Row (L-R): Stephanie Varghese, '18, Audrey Ruiz '16 (Club Vice-President), and Melanie Guardado '16. Middle row (L-R): Mindy Reyes, '18 and Anneliese Deusch '19 Standing in the back row (L-R): Arada Button '19, Christina Au '19, Katie Selko '16, Stella Rugama '16 (Club President), Penelope Bernal '19, Reanna Salvador '17, and Xienna Yepez '19.

Although hundreds of books, from Harry Potter and Little House on the Prairie to The Hunger Games and Huckleberry Finn, have been challenged by those who seek to remove them from schools and libraries; the Ramona Library and Book Club encourage its students to oppose censorship and to exercise their “fREADom” to read and to stay curious and open to ideas, learning, and literature!
