“Ramona Students Clean Up Our Beaches”

Saturday, September 18th, was International Coastal Cleanup Day. Forty Ramona students along with Ms. Maggie Averill, Mrs. Angelica Seager, Sister Anna, and several parents traveled to Belmont Pier in Long Beach to clean up trash. Most of the trash consisted of tiny pieces of plastic, styrofoam, and cigarette butts. Fish and other sea life swallow these items which create toxins in their bodies. Humans then consume these toxins when they eat the fish. While everyone was cleaning the beach, they got a bonus treat as they watched a pod of dolphins swimming and playing close to shore! Thank you to all who participated in the cleanup day. Let’s continue to do our part and keep our beaches clean throughout the year.
