Realtors Read Across Pasadena in Celebration of Read Across America

More than 85 local realtors will head to the classrooms and libraries of Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) elementary schools to read aloud to children in kindergarten-fifth grade during the first annual Read Across PASadena March 2 – 11, 2016. The event was inspired by Collaborate PASadena and sponsored by the Pasadena Educational Foundation to forge and strengthen connections between the realtor community and PUSD schools. Read Across PASadena salutes National Read Across America Week, the annual celebration of reading that honors the March 2nd birthday of Theodor Seuss Geisel, known as Dr. Seuss.

“This amazing response from the realtors of the greater Pasadena area is a milestone for our district,” said PUSD Superintendent Brian McDonald, Ed.D. “Meaningful partnerships like Read Across PASadena inspire the imagination and creativity of our children and bring together businesses and schools to make our neighborhoods and communities stronger.”

Read Across PASadena establishes meaningful collaboration between local realtors and the schools of the Pasadena Unified School District, and promotes the joy of reading. The event was inspired by Collaborate PASadena, a coalition of public organizations, cities, and individuals who work together to make Pasadena, Altadena, and Sierra Madre places where children grow up in supportive environments that prepare them for success in school and in life.

Read Across PASadena partners include the local realtor community, the Pasadena Educational Foundation, United Teachers of Pasadena, California School Employees Association, Reading Partners, Reading is Fundamental of Southern California, and the Pasadena Public Library.

“I am so excited that this great bunch of Realtors is heading into Pasadena elementary schools to experience what a campus and a classroom in PUSD is really like,” said Carrie Benuska, a Realtor with the John Aaroe Group who spearheaded the recruitment effort. “I am confident it is going to be a great experience for all and will impact each of the Realtors in a profound way.”

Participating realtors include the John Aaroe Group, Berkshire Hathaway, Coldwell Banker, Deasy/Penner, Dilbeck, Keller Williams, Podley Properties, Sotheby’s, and Partners Trust.

Schools have also recruited parents and community members to read to students during the annual celebration of books and reading. To learn more, visit pusd.us
