Rep. Chu Announces Winners of 11th Annual Artistic Discovery Congressional Art Competition



On Friday, May 29, Rep. Judy Chu announced the winners of her 11th annual Artistic Discovery Competition. Now in its 39th year, the nationwide competition is sponsored by Members of Congress to promote and recognize the artistic achievements of students. Winners were selected by a committee of judges that took into account style, technique, originality, and creativity. The winning work will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol building for a year with other winning pieces from around the country while other selections will be hung in Congresswoman Chu’s Washington DC and district offices. All the winners will also receive scholarships. This year’s winners and their artworks are:

1st Place: Tiffany Tong – Temple City High School
“Unconditional Love”

2nd Place: Rachel Molina – Maranatha High School
“Komodoensis: 5700”

3rd Place: Marian Seo – Maranatha High School
“Curiosity”

Honorable Mention: Jacob Gong – Temple City High School
“Disorientation”

Honorable Mention: Suwen Han – Claremont High School
“Artistic Life”

Honorable Mention: Tammy Sujaritchai – Southwestern Academy
“Into the Unknown”

Honorable Mention: Nicholas Forman – South Pasadena High School
“Bombastic”
