Rep. Judy Chu Recognizes Blair’s Outstanding Leader, Student, and Artist Melanie Cabrera

As part of Representative Judy Chu’s ongoing series to highlight incredible students in the district, Rep. Chu is thrilled to recognize Melanie Consigna Cabrera, an outstanding leader, student, and artist. Melanie was born in the Philippines and immigrated to California at a very young age.

As the eldest child and a first-generation student, Melanie was inspired by her parents’ journey and was determined advance and challenge herself. And that’s exactly what she did, joining the Blair HS Army JROTC program where she served as Sergeant Major and Battalion Commander.

Melanie also challenged herself in academia as an International Baccalaureate Career-related Program (IBCP) candidate/awardee and participant in the Blair HS Health Academy. Apart from her extracurricular and academic pursuits, she also likes creating artistic surrealist composites.

Earlier this year, one of Melanie’s surrealist composites won 2nd place at the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Coalition Art Contest’s high school division!

“Melanie will be attending Pasadena City College to major in Design Media Arts. She hopes to pursue a career in education. I am so excited to congratulate Melanie and to see how she will impact her community in the future,” says Rep. Judy Chu.
