Right At School, the Nationally Recognized After-School Enrichment Provider is Coming to SMUSD

San Marino Unified School District announces that the nationally recognized after-school enrichment provider, Right At School, is coming to the district. Starting in August of 2020, Right At School (RAS) will assume responsibility for before and after-school care at Valentine Elementary School, Carver Elementary School, and Huntington Middle School. The timing could not be better for SMUSD to partner with a high-quality educational provider who offers a safe and effective place for children of essential workers and struggling parents to bring their kids to help fill a critical gap in childcare during COVID-19.

Right At School provides families flexibility in enrollment options including day camp during school closure and before and after school care during normal times. RAS has developed a comprehensive enrichment curriculum to keep students engaged while they participate. Students will have a healthy snack and engage in dynamic fitness activities, student-driven projects, team building, leadership development, and have the opportunity to complete homework. The program also features an enriched curriculum in the form of two-week units. Examples of units include:

• Getting Down to Business: students are introduced to money and commerce;
• Icky Experiments: students experiment with sticky substances to learn chemistry; and
• Variety Show: students rehearse and perform individual talent acts.

For those families who will be interested in the RAS day camp program, it will be available to provide a safe and effective working environment for students of essential workers — both school district and city staff, as well as parents of SMUSD students. When schools physically reopen, RAS will provide a high quality and engaging before- and after-school program from 7:00 am until 6:00 pm every day school is in session. Families will be able to work with Right at School to create flexible monthly schedules to support their families’ busy lives. Drop-in care as well as punch cards are also flexible options and Right At School will be available during normal school breaks, non-school days and summer.

Right At School is hosted a “Family Information Night” recently to provide SMUSD families an overview of their programs, to answer questions, and to interact with you.
