San Marino High School’s Dance Department Presents an Original Production of ‘Philia and the Four Elements’

This Thursday, Friday and Saturday, November 19-21, the San Marino High School Dance Department will present, ‘Philia and the Four Elements’ in the SMHS Neher Auditorium. ‘Philia and the Four Elements’ is an original, sci-fi rock ballet that showcases over 100 dancers and marks the debut of a new pixel-flex curtain on which background scenes will be projected from paintings by SMHS students.

The production tells the story of Greek philosopher Empedocles’ world-view of a cosmic cycle of eternal change, growth and decay. Empedocles proposed that two cosmic forces, Love (Philia) and Strife (Neikos) remain in an eternal battle for domination of the Cosmos. He believed that Philia and Neikos had the power to bring about the mixture and separation of the four Classical Elements: Air, Earth, Water and Fire. ‘Philia and the Four Elements’ features students Kristi Tatsuno as ‘Earth,’ Audrey Wilson as ‘Water,’ Victoria Castreje as ‘Fire’ and Alexis French as ‘Air.’ Who will win the struggle for the Cosmos?

Tickets are $14 for adults and $8 for students and children. Tickets are available at the door or at the auditorium on November 16, 17 and 18 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. For more ticket information, please email smhsdance@smusd.us.
