San Marino Unified School District Announces Appointment of Acting Superintendent

With the two newly installed Board members in place and with the departure of former Superintendent Dr. Jeff Wilson on June 30, the full Board of Education voted 5-0 to appoint Dr. Linda de la Torre to the position of Acting Superintendent at its public meeting on Tuesday, July 13, 2021. Board Clerk Jane Chon moved to appoint Dr. de la Torre, the Assistant Superintendent of Administrative Services, to assume the extra duties of superintendent temporarily during the transition period and until the Board makes a determination regarding the hiring and retention of a permanent superintendent.

Board President Shelley Ryan expressed her appreciation for Dr. de la Torre’s willingness to serve in this position. “With schools fully reopening after the pandemic in less than a month, it is important to have a leader who can step in immediately and work well with administrators, teachers, staff, parents and students to ensure a safe and successful school year for our students. With Linda de la Torre’s 32 years in our school district and community, and with her intimate knowledge of all aspects of running this school district, I am confident that there will be a seamless transition and that the District is in very good hands.”

Dr. de la Torre thanked the Board for their trust and faith in her abilities to perform the superintendent duties during the transition. “While the primary and immediate focus is to fully reopen schools and meet our students’ academic, extracurricular and social-emotional needs, there are other important issues the District needs to address. I look forward to working with this new Board on strategic planning and moving the District forward with unity and transparency to ensure the best education possible for our students.”
