Sequoyah School Student Artwork Spotlight: “We’re “Illegal””

Sequoyah School Student Artwork Spotlight presents We’re “Illegal”, by Gloria Aguilar ‘23. Acrylic Paint on Cardboard, SAS Visual Seminar.

“Being born first generation comes with a lot of pressure and judgement. On one side you’re told you don’t belong here, on the other side you have the pressure of proving them wrong, and making your family proud. While all of this pressure is happening to me, I have to face a lot of judgement from people for speaking Spanish in public or even hearing people say, ‘Go back to your country.’ This piece is made from their perspective, and is a way of perseverance through being called these things.” ~ Gloria Aguilar ’23
