Sequoyah Student’s Artwork Takes Flight at New LAX Transit Hub

Sequoyah School student Charlie, Class of 2032, recently contributed her artwork to a major public art installation titled “The Distance of the Sun” by renowned artist Glenn Kaino at the new LAX/Metro Transit Center Station. The installation celebrates the imagination of children across Los Angeles by featuring their drawings of flying objects, which were transformed into intricate origami by master folder and fellow Altadenan, Robert J. Lang.

Charlie’s imaginative contribution – a flying cyclops – was one of the drawings selected and folded into origami, then 3D-printed and scaled into a sculpture. Her piece now hangs proudly at the base of the monumental artwork suspended in the station’s main pavilion. As a special guest of the artist, Charlie attended the grand opening event, where her creativity was honored as part of this inspiring community collaboration that connects travelers from LAX to the greater Los Angeles area.
