Southwestern Academy Hosts Meaningful African Diaspora Dinner

For 99 years, Southwestern Academy has been the home to thousands of students from all over the world. As part of our school traditions, we host monthly International Dinners so our students can share all about their cultures to the school community.

On Wednesday, February 22, we hosted our African Diaspora dinner. It was a smash success! It included entertainment from a group of performers called the Rhythms of the Village, who were wonderful and got several students to participate in playing some music and showing off their dance moves. The Hosts of the evening were juniors, Carlo and Michelle, who challenged the school House Teams to compete in a trivia game centered on Africa and prominent members of the African Diaspora.

Following the performance, students and faculty were able to enjoy a delicious dinner… made by our students! The menu included BBQ Chicken, Mac and Cheese, Corn Bread, J Rice, and Peach Cobbler. Flags of the 54 countries of the African continent decorated the walls of our Study Hall and Commons. We love learning about our student’s cultures!
