SPEF Summer School has Gone Virtual
Each year, more than 2,000 students count on South Pasadena Educational Foundation’s Summer School program to brush up on basics, jump ahead on critical academic topics, expand their skills and ignite their imaginations. SPEF offers proficiency and enrichment classes to students of all ages – from incoming kindergartners to high school seniors. This is SPEF’s most significant initiative and it would not be possible without hundreds of hours of volunteer support.
SPEF Online Curriculum
SPEF’s K-8 digital learning platform will include a combination of live instruction from your favorite summer teachers as well as direct-instruction videos featuring curriculum and content experts who explain concepts, model strategies, provide examples, and make real-world connections. Students will complete a wide variety of fun and engaging tasks and projects to improve understanding. Families can do the projects together if desired to create a unique family bonding opportunity during summer.
Classes will still be in a Period 1-5 format to allow for a schedule when students and teachers meet within the week which will occur at minimum twice per week. At other times, students can work on their projects and tasks on their own time frame throughout the week.
Classes listed are classes that are scheduled to move forward online. You can log in and register for any of the available classes. We will contact families individually if classes are canceled due to low enrollment or if we decide a class isn’t moving to an online platform for various reasons. At that time you can choose to change classes or get a refund for that class.
9-12 Digital Learning Platform
SPEF’s High School digital learning platform will include direct-instruction videos featuring curriculum and content experts who explain concepts, model strategies, provide examples, and make real-world connections. Students will complete tasks that check for understanding. They can also pause or rewind videos to take notes or review concepts as they progress through instruction at their own pace as long as they complete the class within the 5-weeks.
SPEF teachers will also be providing support to students throughout their experience. They will be there to answer questions, help if the student struggles, monitor progress, and proctor exams.
Don’t see the class you need?
There are classes available but not listed. If there is a class not listed that your High School student needs to take, either an Advanced Credit Class or a Recovery Class you can register for Class Not Listed, either the full year or the single semester. Then email us with the class needed.
