SPUSD Registration Begins in Mid-January

Registration Dates Shift Earlier to Plan for the 2023-2024 School Year

Registration to enroll children in South Pasadena elementary schools for the 2023-2024 school year will begin on January 18, 2023–approximately one month earlier than last year. Parents/guardians interested in registering their children should first visit their home school to pick up a registration packet and schedule an appointment for an in-person meeting. The meetings will be scheduled between January 30-February 3, 2023 for families who have other children in the District or February 13-21, 2023 for new families. The child’s home school is determined by the attendance area boundaries for each school, and addresses may be verified here.

To improve the likelihood that siblings will attend the same elementary school, siblings of current students will be allowed to register first. When parents/guardians complete their registration meeting during the designated dates with the required paperwork, they are ensured an equal chance of being placed at their home school during the new family lottery, regardless of when the initial meeting takes place. The date and time of registration will only be used to determine school placement (as space permits) for children who register after February 21, 2023.

With the statewide expansion of the transitional kindergarten (TK) program, children who turn five between September 2, 2023 and April 2, 2024 also will be eligible to register for the TK program offered this fall. Eligibility dates for transitional kindergarten this year are for children born between September 2, 2018 and April 2, 2019. More information about the TK program may be found on the SPUSD website and TK registration information may be found here.

SPUSD also offers a Dual Language Immersion Program for elementary and middle school children. For parents interested in learning more about the program, SPUSD created a general overview presentation that has been shared on the Dual Language Immersion (DI) Program webpage.

Children who are currently enrolled at SPUSD schools are automatically registered for the following school year. School registration is a multi-step process and should be followed as outlined below:
