St. Gregory A. & M. Hovsepian School Celebrate Earth Day

On this day in April, St. Gregory A. & M. Hovsepian School students didn’t forget about Earth Day. Today, they “celebrated the beauty of our earth” and what it has to offer, by focusing on living a sustainable life. One of the goals of St. Gregory A. & M. Hovsepian School is to respect the planet by teaching sustainability, which is incorporated into the students daily activities and lessons. With the society creating waste at an alarming rate, it’s crucial to teach a sustainable lifestyle while children are young.

Earth Day was founded in 1970 by Wisconsin Senator Gaylord Nelson, who was inspired in part by the anti-Vietnam war protests and wanted to inspire a similar level of activism against environmental destruction. Five decades later, Earth Day has become a global event that has raised awareness about ecological issues including deforestation and global warming–byproducts of a rapidly expanding, waste-producing global community.
