St. Philip the Apostle Congratulates Alumna Monica Amestoy Who Recently Competed at the Tournament of Champions in Kentucky

Congratulation to alumna and FSHA senior Monica Amestoy! Monica just returned from the Tournament of Champions (TOC) in Lexington, Kentucky. She competed alongside 80 of the best Lincoln/Douglas debaters in the country. The road to qualify to compete at this tournament is long, arduous and complicated. And to reach this tournament is the dream of high school debaters across the country.

Because Monica is one of the top female debaters in the country, she was invited to compete at the Hockaday Round Robin, an invitation-only tournament open to only female TOC qualifiers. She has also been hired by three of the top debate camps in the country to work this summer.

Monica won the “Top Speaker” award at the Cal Invitational at UC Berkeley in February. She won that award besting almost 400 other debaters from across the United States.

She will be attending the University of Utah on a debate scholarship and she will continue her debate career in college. Way to go Monica!
