St. Rita School Returns with Gratitude and Community Support After Evacuation

St. Rita School faculty and staff returned to campus yesterday after being evacuated due to nearby fires. While the day brought a range of emotions, the overwhelming sentiment was one of gratitude and blessing.

The school was honored by the visit of Paul Escala, Senior Director and Superintendent of Catholic Schools, Anna Marie Silva, Regional Superintendent, and Teresa Villarreal, Assistant Superintendent. They came to check on the well-being of the St. Rita community and to assess any needs for campus support.

Early in the morning, Lauro and Pepe began walking the campus to evaluate the situation and initiate the cleanup process. Their efforts were soon bolstered by the enthusiastic support of St. Rita families. A dedicated group of volunteers, including Mr. McClung, Mr. O’Neill, Mr. Torrie, and student alumnus Jimmy O’Neill, stepped up to assist. Tom Campbell, a friend of Mr. McMaster from St. Cornelius, also joined the cleanup efforts, showcasing the spirit of collaboration.

Adding to the sense of hope and community, a member of the National Guard visited the campus to provide updates on city regulations and share plans for their evening stationing. Remarkably, this National Guard member turned out to be a St. Rita School alumnus, further connecting the school to the wider community.

The day was filled with what many described as “God moments,” reminders that even in times of darkness and uncertainty, there is protection, hope, and love.

St. Rita School expressed heartfelt gratitude for the support, stating, “We are blessed 💙💛.”
