Susannah Laster ’18 Zooms with Poly’s Swim Team

With distance learning in full effect, Polytechnic School’s spring teams have also adjusted to distance practicing as well. Last Friday, the swim team hosted a virtual chat with Susannah Laster ’18 during practice time. Laster was a prominent swimmer who broke records while at Poly and has her name on championship banners in the Poly Aquatics Center. She encouraged the team to continue to stay active throughout these tough times and highlighted the importance of creating and maintaining a daily routine. She suggested the team try new dry land workouts and running to keep up their stamina.

Laster also spoke about her college experience swimming for Dartmouth, as she is finishing up her second year there. She mentioned the importance of having support from her swim team and how they were united by trying to find the balance between the high-level training and academic demands. Laster also touched on in the importance of time management as well. The swim team is not only her team in the pool but her team in her schoolwork. For Laster, learning to lean on the team both in and out of the pool has helped her tremendously. It was an insightful talk for Poly’s swimmers; an opportunity for them to ask questions to a Poly alum about her Poly and college experiences, and gave them a good look at what swimming at the next level could look like.
