The Waverly School Welcomes Inaugural Artist-in-Residence Lino Martinez

Waverly is proud to welcome Lino Martinez as its very first Artist-in-Residence. Born in Mexico City and now based in Los Angeles, Martinez brings more than three decades of experience as an artist and master printmaker. His work blends drawing, painting, and lithography, often exploring themes of color, geometry, and the human figure.

Throughout his residency, Martinez will engage with students across the Middle School, High School, and Elementary levels, sharing his artistic journey, demonstrating his creative process, and encouraging thoughtful exploration and experimentation. In the coming weeks, he will collaborate closely with students on a variety of projects, guiding them from initial concepts to finished works.

The Waverly School looks forward to continuing this partnership throughout the semester and anticipates the many ways students will be inspired by Martinez’s creativity and vision. Student artwork created during the residency will be featured in an exhibition at Jones Coffee Roastery’s The Crush Pad from May 9 through June 5. The community is invited to attend the opening reception and art sale benefiting Waverly on May 9 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
