VADA Student Kayla, Working with Oil Pastels

Visual Arts and Design Academy (VADA) student Kayla’s first time working with oil pastels. “As she says at the end of the clip, Beautiful!” Oil Pastels are an affordable common art medium that allows for lots of experimentation and imagination. Oil Pastels aren’t the best for younger ones as they can be quite messy but for older students and adults, the ability to blend and overlap colors can sure be fun. Working with oil pastels provide opportunities for students to develop confidence and experiment with ‘drawing’ using and blending many colors and shades and prompting students to fully utilize and occupy the space on the artwork.

The Visual Arts and Design Academy (VADA) in Creative Arts Media and Design (CAMAD) at Pasadena High School is a studio arts focused program within PUSD. Students explore traditional and digital media cross curricular integrated projects and daily studio practice.
