Westridge Lower School Lets Go, Celebrates New Beginnings

Earlier this week, Westridge Lower School students were surprised with school mascot Ivy dressed as Elsa from the Disney animated movie Frozen at their Let It Go assembly! Teacher advisors helped students symbolically release something they wanted to leave behind in the new year, handing their class’s written notes to Elsa as students belted out the movie’s popular song “Let It Go.”

From getting over a fear of cheese to letting go of perfectionism, several students shared their reflections aloud. Others included:

• Letting go of talking badly about yourself, because “everybody is amazing in their own way”
• Stop taking things too hard and have a positive mindset
• Let go of the fear of making mistakes in front of the class
• Stop being afraid of rollercoasters

Fourth grader Sloan P. encouraged Lower Schoolers to remember that they are not the ones who feel the way you do when it comes to fears and that no one is ever alone! The assembly ended with students writing wishes for the new year on paper snowflakes and hanging them on lit-up trees to celebrate new beginnings!
