Westridge School 4th Graders Become Field Researchers at Arlington Gardens

On Wednesday, the 4th grade class learned how scientists do important field study by becoming field researchers themselves! They walked over to the neighboring Arlington Gardens (read more about the history of the gardens here), which they explored in pairs.

Using guidance from Lower School STEM Teacher Monica Sanchez, students recorded their observations of animals including ants and bees in “See, Think, Wonder” charts. The trip is part of a study of structure and function, specifically looking at animal adaptations, said Sanchez. Students connected how field study “leads to the scientific body of knowledge about animals that later winds up online and in books,” she added.
