Westridge Upper School English Hosts Inspiring Guest Speakers on Literature, Art, and Drama

Westridge Upper School English recently explored fresh perspectives on literature and art, life at sea, and using space in a theatrical context by welcoming several guest speakers to class, including:

Flora Kao—an artist exploring the poetics of human relationship to nature, architecture, memory, and loss—who co-led a lesson with English Teacher Max Duncan related to author Ken Liu’s short story “The Paper Menagerie,” which includes magical elements of Chinese zhezhi (origami).

Alumna Cypress Cai ’23, who came to work with Molly Yurchak’s Drama & Interpretation class on physical space exploration in the play students are currently studying—Jiehae Park’s Macbeth-inspired play, “peerless.”

Professional salmon fisherman Christopher Wang, who connected the theme of Zoela Summerfield’s Perspectives in Literature class this year (animals) and current reading (“Moby-Dick” by Herman Melville) together.
