10th L.A. County Yarn Crawl Is Back in Pasadena and Across County

Published on Mar 23, 2022

The Los Angeles County Yarn Crawl is back in Pasadena and across the county in a four-day live event celebrating the beauty and utility of yarn after a two-year absence due to the pandemic.

From Pasadena, downtown Los Angeles, Los Feliz, Long Beach, Bellflower, Redondo Beach, Inglewood, Santa Monica, Brentwood, to Encino, Valley Village, La Verne, and Claremont, a total of 15 women-owned small yarn shop retailers serving the fiber arts community are uniting this week to remind everyone that “yarn brings people together.”

The 10th L.A. County Yarn Crawl is slated for Thursday to Sunday, March 24 to 27, when those yarn shops spread across a 143-mile radius open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. to welcome local enthusiasts, tourists, and multi-generational fiber artists.

The Crawl is a once-a-year opportunity to spend quality time with fellow yarn lovers and fiber artists – knitters, crocheters, spinners, weavers, and felters – and explore the local yarn shops you’ve always wanted to visit.

In Pasadena, the County Yarn Crawl is centered at Wollhaus, a yarn shop located in the historic Pasadena Playhouse district.

The owners, Ulli Schober and Kathi Snodgrass, founded Wollhaus in 2016 to build a community around creativity and thoughtfully selected yarns, tools, bags, and other items.

“We hope to see a fearless community of new and returning knitters and crocheters eager to learn with the exploration of new techniques such as color work, courage to try new things, new generation of younger knitters, and fashion movement,” the owners of Wollhaus said.

Located near Pasadena City College and Caltech, Wollhaus has many from both campuses – faculty (including scientists), staff, and students – as customers. Wollhaus offers classes, trunk shows, and workshops for anyone interested in yarn and fiber arts.

For more information about Wollhaus, visit www.wollhaus.com. The shop is at 696 E. Colorado Blvd. Suite 2.

The 10th L.A. County Yarn Crawl is a self-paced fiber-filled weekend where many of the shops will have trunk shows of special products just for the Crawl.

At each shop, you can pick up a pin, opt to purchase a commemorative tote bag, grab their free patterns, enter to win prizes, join in on a trunk show or possibly two, and spoil yourself with gorgeous yarns, patterns, and supplies. Shops will offer featured yarns at a 15-percent discount, plus these yarns will be used in the free knit and crochet patterns that each shop is giving away.

Returning this week is the Crawl passport prize promotion, where each of the 15 shops will feature a $300 gift basket prize. To enter this promotion, participants need to drop their completed passports, with stamps from the Yarn Crawl sprawl of shops visited, through www.layarncrawl.org/pages/about-the-la-yarn-crawl.

Visitors can also win Yarn Crawl Bucks – worth from $100 to $300 – with winners to be drawn from those who visit as many shops as possible. These Yarn Crawl Bucks are good at any of the 15 participating shops. Winners will need to claim their prize before next year’s crawl.
