Making a splash in 2022 with a whole new look outside and in, the 2022 Hyundai Tucson has a complete redesign, three new power trains (conventional gasoline and two hybrid options), and a snazzy new interior.

On the outside, the Tucson sports a more distinctive silhouette with cascading headlights, distinctive bodywork creases and squared wheel arches. Interior-wise the center stack has been revamped with fewer hard buttons and a cleaner digital instrument panel.

A small SUV, the Hyundai Tucson Hybrid comes in three trim levels: Blue Hybrid, SEL Convenience Hybrid and Limited Hybrid. This review will focus on the Limited Hybrid trim.

Some of the highlights of the fully-loaded Limited Hybrid trim are: a panoramic sunroof, paddle shifters, driver’s seat memory settings, 10.25-inch touchscreen with Nav, surround view camera system, Bose premium audio system, leather seating surfaces and adaptive cruise control.

The Limited Hybrid is powered by a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-banger hybrid engine producing 227 horses. A six-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters and AWD with drive mode select completes the powertrain. Expect to get 37/city, 36/highway, and 37 combined mpg.

Passengers will be happy with the ease of entering the Tucson and it’s plenty roomy, even for taller people. The front seats are comfy, with lots of adjustments. Backseats are also comfortable and the seatbacks recline.

The lack of analogue dials and buttons are a bit of a disappointment, some functions like audio and climate control should be easy to adjust while driving. Using a touchscreen for all functions makes things a bit more complicated, but there are voice functions that circumvent using the touchscreen and make things easier.

There’s plenty of space to store junk in the trunk, 38.7 cubic feet to be exact with the 60/40 split backseat up. There are small storage cubbies throughout the interior allowing for places to stash all your stuff.

The Tucson is a smooth-riding SUV. Road imperfections seem to disappear with it’s suspension. It is quick off the line when accelerating on highways and the steering is tight and responsive when taking curves. Cabin noise is almost non-existent, the better to enjoy the Bose sound system.

In the market for a fresh SUV? Give the 2022 Hyundai Tucson Limited Hybrid a look-see.
