For the 2022 model year the Volkswagen Jetta gets more power jumping from a turbocharged 1.4-liter to a turbocharged 1.5-liter engine. It also gets more standard tech and advanced drivers’ aids like blind-spot monitoring and forward collision mitigation. There’s also a digital gauge cluster included on all the Jetta trims. The outside received a refresh too with new bumpers and grille.

A compact sedan, the 2022 Volkswagen Jetta comes in four trim levels: S, Sport, SE and SEL. This review will focus on the Sport trim.

Making the Sport unique are some exterior and interior upgrades like, 17-inch alloy wheels, front accent lights, black window trim, mirror caps and headliner, gloss black front grille and front accent lights. Notable advanced driver aids include: blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic warning and forward collision mitigation.

Powered by a turbocharged, 1.5-liter four banger, the Jetta now produces 158 horses (that’s 11 more than last year) and 184 lb-ft of torque. All models are available only in front-wheel drive. My model came equipped with the standard six-speed manual transmission which was extremely easy to operate. Expect to get 29/city, 40/highway and 33/combined MPG.

As with all VW models the interior is polished with a sleek dash panel which is easy on the eyes. The interior is quite roomy and the seating front and back is relatively comfortable. The touchscreen is easy to use and there are some redundant knobs for those functions the driver uses most. There’s a good amount of storage space behind the backseats as well as little cubbies located throughout the cabin.

The newer engine gives the Jetta more power! The car gets a noticeable burst of speed from the turbo and the car is easily maneuvered with the light steering. It does have a tendency to lean into sharper corners at speed. The interior is relatively quiet with little road noise and the suspension takes all but the worst road imperfections with ease.

Now with more power, the 2022 Volkswagen Jetta Sport has more to offer.
