A Noise Within theater company is bringing back its acclaimed adaptation of “A Christmas Carol” to its Pasadena venue at 3352 E. Foothill Blvd. for the 2024 holiday season, running Dec. 1 through 24.
The production, adapted by Geoff Elliott, distinguishes itself by using exclusively Charles Dickens’s original text, without adding a single word from outside the novel’s pages.
Elliott, who co-directs with Julia Rodriguez-Elliott, will share the role of Ebenezer Scrooge with Frederick Stuart, performing alongside Riley Shanahan as Marley and a comprehensive ensemble cast.
The production features Trisha Miller as the Ghost of Christmas Past, Anthony Adu as the Ghost of Christmas Present, and David A. Rangel as the Ghost of Christmas Future.
Kasey Mahaffy and Emily Kosloski return as Bob and Mrs. Cratchit, with Aria Zhang as Tiny Tim and Mildred Marie Langford serving as narrator.
“I say it every year – ‘A Christmas Carol’ is the greatest story of redemption ever written,” Elliott said, noting that new discoveries keep the production fresh with surprises each year.
“The play offers such a great balance between a spooky ghost story, and the joy and exuberance that comes with Scrooge’s transformation,” Juliet Elliot added.
Robert Oriol leads the creative team as composer and sound designer, with Rod Bagheri as music director and Angela Balogh Calin designing the original costumes.
Performances will run Thursdays and Fridays at 7 p.m., Saturdays at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., and Sundays at 2 p.m., with additional showings through Dec. 24.
The theater will offer a special sensory-friendly “Relaxed Performance” on Dec. 1, featuring shorter runtime, freedom of movement, reduced effects, and dedicated relaxation spaces.
Tickets for the 90-minute performance start at $51.50, with student discounts, family packs, and group rates for 10 or more, while December 5 offers pay-what-you-choose options.
The production, recommended for ages five and up, includes holiday crafts in the decorated lobby and opportunities for photographs with cast members after each performance.
