On Sunday, April 28, Salastina will present “The Universe Sounds Delicious,” a unique event combining music and gastronomy inspired by the cosmos. The evening, hosted at The Revery LA, promises an ethereal ambiance where the Music of the Spheres will harmonize with delectable sensations.
Attendees will indulge in a meticulously crafted 5-course feast by Master Chef-alum Becky Brown, each course corresponding to a space-themed musical selection. The program features accessible works from “Star Wars,” “Star Trek,” and “Interstellar,” as well as artsy pieces like Terry Riley’s “Sunrise of the Planetary Dream Collector.”
“Every Sounds Delicious turns into a big party by the end,” said Kevin Kumar, Co-Artistic Director of Salastina. “We want our attendees to be inspired, transported, and glutted with great food and great music.”
The event will showcase the expertise of luminaries from both astronomy and music. NASA astronomer Steve Bryson, renowned for his quest to unveil Earth-like planets, will perform on the theremin alongside Salastina’s quartet. French Nobel laureates from LIGO will divulge their groundbreaking exploration of the universe’s auditory tapestry.
“Many scientists attended our concerts, and we realized we could incorporate their expertise into the theme,” Kumar explained. “Maia Jasper White, my co-director, is the head of chamber music at Caltech, and she regularly invites brilliant people from there who love classical music.”
Salastina has presented about a dozen Sounds Delicious events with overwhelmingly positive reviews. “There are lots of parallels between experiencing music and cuisine,” Kumar said. “Having all of your senses stimulated helps you experience both in a heightened, richer way.”
Theme maestro Mercedes Curran will guide the audience through this unparalleled sensory odyssey. A vegan menu option will also be available. The event features artists Kevin Kumar, Maia Jasper White, Yoshika Masuda, Linnea Powell, Arnaud Pele, Marie Kasprczak, Becky Brown, and Mercedes Curran.
Tickets for “The Universe Sounds Delicious” are priced at $295 and can be purchased through Salastina’s website. The event begins at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 28, at The Revery LA, located at 1700 Naud St Unit C, Los Angeles.
