Somewhere between the estate attorney and the elder-law attorney, between the financial planner and the financial advisor, most people get lost. A free workshop in Pasadena next week aims to hand them a map.

Pasadena Village, a nonprofit that helps older adults age in place, is hosting “Who Do I Need on My Team?” on Thursday, May 28, at the Flintridge Center. The 90-minute session, limited to 33 attendees, pairs two professionals from different corners of personal planning to walk participants through the web of specialists involved in managing their legal, financial, and medical futures.

JuliAnne DeChaine, a personal business manager who runs VERITAS Home Office & Business Management, will present alongside Danielle Smith, a certified financial planner and director at Sequoia Financial Group’s Pasadena office. DeChaine, a member of Pasadena Village’s Educational Programs Committee, has previously led sessions for the organization on getting financial and legal affairs in order. Smith, who holds a Financial Planning Certificate from Pepperdine Graziadio Business School, specializes in estate planning and guiding families through financial transitions.

The session will cover the differences between various legal specialties, the range of medical care options available to older adults, and strategies for effective financial management, according to the event description posted on Pasadena Village’s website.

The workshop is part of Pasadena Village’s broader mission to prepare older adults for the decisions that come with aging. The nonprofit’s Educational Programs Team regularly brings in professionals to address legal, medical, and financial topics. The organization, founded in 2012, serves more than 250 members in the west San Gabriel Valley.

Katie Brandon, executive director of Pasadena Village, has said the region offers a deep network of professionals who serve older adults — but that knowing those options exist is the first step. “To remain independent, you need to have choices, and you need to have options,” Brandon said in discussing the organization’s efforts to connect older adults with professionals.

“And to have a familiar face of someone you’ve met, a contact at a company you know, gives you peace of mind as you age in place,” she said.

The event is free and open to all, but registration is required through the Pasadena Village website at pasadenavillage.org. The Flintridge Center is at 236 West Mountain Street Suite 117. For more information, contact Pasadena Village at (626) 765-6037 or info@pasadenavillage.org.
