A Resource Fair Built for Eaton Fire’s Creative Workforce

The Eaton Fire took homes, studios, archives, instruments and entire careers’ worth of work. On Saturday, May 30, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the Arts & Culture Coalition of Altadena will host Creative Workers Rising — a resource fair built specifically for artists, designers, writers and other creative professionals displaced or otherwise affected by the January 2025 fire — at the Collaboratory, 540 W. Woodbury Road, in Altadena.

The fair is structured to do two things at once. The first is practical: connect attendees with the legal, financial, housing, mental-health and grant-application resources that fire survivors continue to need 17 months after the blaze. The second is informational. Attendees are invited to complete a questionnaire that will help the coalition map the still-evolving needs of the area’s creative workforce, so that future programming can be shaped by data from the people most affected rather than from outside assumptions about what artists “should” need.

The Collaboratory itself has become a hub for Eaton Fire recovery. The flagship space of the disaster-relief collective opened in October and houses dozens of partner nonprofit organizations on-site, from case management and legal aid to a free store of household essentials and mental-health programming. Hosting the creative-workforce fair under the same roof is a way of weaving artist support into the broader recovery infrastructure already operating in the building.
