“We are excited to relaunch our Playhouse Village Walking Tour with substantial new research, created in support of our friends at the Playhouse Village Association as they celebrate their 30th anniversary,” said Nick Giovanazzi, Pasadena Heritage’s programs director. The 90-minute tour covers roughly a mile, stopping at landmarks including the Scottish Rite Cathedral, the United Artists Theatre and the Warner Building — buildings that capture the energy and optimism of a period when Pasadena was reinventing itself.
The architecture along the route reads like a primer on the era’s signature styles: Art Deco’s geometric drama, Spanish Colonial Revival’s tile roofs and arched openings, and Mediterranean Revival’s textured plaster facades. Pasadena Heritage guides explain how the district came together during a decade of rapid growth and how the buildings continue to anchor the neighborhood today.
Sunday’s tour is the architecture-focused capstone of a Pasadena Heritage Roaring ’20s weekend that opened Saturday evening with “Poker Night at the Blinn” at the historic Blinn House. Tours last approximately an hour and a half. Dogs are not permitted on Pasadena Heritage walking tours. Tickets are required and available through the Pasadena Heritage website.
