A Saturday Unlike Any Other in Local History: The Dena Unites in Massive Fire Relief Efforts

Published on Jan 25, 2025

In an unprecedented show of local unity, Dena — the combined communities of Altadena and Pasadena  — is coming together in what could be its largest single-day number of relief efforts as multiple aid events unfold across the area on Saturday, January 25.

At Robinson Park’s south parking lot, a major distribution event backed by corporate heavyweights has drawn hundreds. The first 500 fire-affected families receive gift cards, while supplies last. The Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation, World Central Kitchen, Bank of America, Disney, and other corporations have contributed everything from household necessities to sports equipment.

Simply Divine Beauty Supply at 421 E Woodbury Road transforms into a student-focused relief center until 4:00 p.m. Owner Keshia Darden coordinates with local organizations to provide new clothing, blankets, and school supplies. Uniquely, this location offers blood pressure checks by licensed nurses and crucial assistance with FEMA aid applications.

The Hindu Temple & Heritage Foundation leads the charge at 676 S. Rosemead Blvd., organizing a comprehensive drive-through distribution from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Cars line up along California Boulevard for contactless pickup of essential supplies including water, hygiene products, diapers, and school supplies.

The Pasadena Village’s IT Café provides specialized support for senior survivors from 10:00 a.m. to noon, offering bilingual tech assistance through Ayuda Técnica para Mayores.

Numerous other smaller efforts abound.

Today’s coordinated relief efforts mark a defining moment in local history—a day when so much of the entire community mobilizes to support neighbors in need.

“The spirit of this community will not be extinguished,” says one volunteer at the Hindu Temple event, echoing the sentiment visible across every distribution point in the city.

The fire is testing Dena’s resilience. It has also revealed its extraordinary capacity for compassion and action.
