Family and children took center stage at Annandale Golf Club Saturday evening, as the Foothill Family 2023 “Diamonds Are Forever” event raised more than $350,000, in a dazzling evening of delicious food, enchanting entertainment and serious fund-raising, before lightening filled the skies, and guests moved from the patio to the “casino.”

Foothill Family CEO Steve Allen welcomed the crowd, and thanked several major supporters, before introducing US Congresswoman Judy Chu (D-28), who addressed the event.

“It is my pleasure,” Chu began,“to be here at this event for one of the best nonprofits in this area, and that is Foothill Family.”

Chu, a registered psychologist and former educator, said, “What Foothill Family does is very important to me. The fact that you are able to provide mental health services, counseling, preschool preparedness, parent education and teacher training to so many.

“Now,” Chu continued, “you are serving 24,000 children, families and individuals each year in 11 languages. And your school-based program is now in 18 school districts, providing onsite therapy and counseling to children in 180 public schools.”

Chu also noted that, following the January dance hall mass shooting in her hometown of Monterey Park, it was Foothill Family that provided mental health support and safe spaces for families, students and staff in the Alhambra Unified School District.

Chu then presented a Congressional commendation to Allen, who accepted on behalf of Foothill Family.

Allen then honored a number of local administrators and school districts for their longtime partnerships with Foothill Family, including Larry Cecil, assistant superintendent for educational services, El Monte Union School District; Froilan Mendoza, ED.D, superintendent of schools, Baldwin Park Unified School District; Raymond Andry. Superintendent, Mountain View School District; and Gamal Salama, Director of Student Services, Basset Unified School District.

Following the speeches and dinner, guests enjoyed a spirited auction for such gifts as a BBQ Beach Party in Corona Del Mar, a Tulum, Mexico penthouse getaway, a Dodger on-field experience, and a Paso Robles wine tasting getaway.

The San Gabriel Valley-based non-profit provides infant, child, youth, and family development services as well as comprehensive mental health care, early childhood development programs, and social services throughout the Greater Los Angeles region.

Foothill Family serves communities across Greater Los Angeles with services provided in homes, at schools, in the community, and at family centers in Covina, Duarte, El Monte, Pasadena, Pomona, and West Covina.
