For the thousands of workers whose livelihoods were upended by the January 2025 Eaton Fire, the path back to steady employment can be as daunting as rebuilding a home. A weekly county program aims to shorten it. On Thursday, July 16, beginning at 1 p.m., the Los Angeles County Department of Economic Opportunity hosts another of its Fire Recovery pop-ups for workers and job seekers affected by the fire, connecting them with immediate job openings, career training and support services.
The recruitment events, held through the county’s America’s Job Centers of California, run each Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. Staff help attendees search for work, enroll in training and reach supportive services, with priority for residents whose jobs were disrupted by the January 2025 wildfires and windstorms.
The program grew out of a county effort, launched after the fire, to speed economic recovery in Altadena and neighboring communities. “This resource is especially meaningful for Eaton Fire survivors,” said Supervisor Kathryn Barger, whose district includes Altadena, urging affected workers and small-business owners to use the free services.
The pop-ups are held at America’s Job Center locations across the county; in the Altadena area, the local center operates at 464 W. Woodbury Road. Attendance is free, and no appointment is required.
