Pasadena Presbyterian Church continues its Music at Noon series this Wednesday with an afternoon performance by Makiko Hirata, an international pianist whose work bridges the concert stage and neuroscience laboratory.

The free 30-minute concert begins at 12:10 p.m. on January 28. Hirata, who holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Rice University, has released 10 albums.

“An international pianist with 10 released albums, Makiko Hirata is also known as ‘Dr. Pianist,’” according to concert materials. “She is on a mission to promote the power of music to heal and unite us. She collaborates with neuroscientists to quantify the benefit of music and promote the power of music as an overlooked social resource to enhance our individual and social well-being.”

Her credentials include recognition as a US-Japan Leadership Program Fellow, a founding member of TEMPO: Music for Climate Action, and a recipient of the Coeuraj 2022 Global Courage Fellowship, which recognizes leaders whose work addresses polarization and trust-building, according to program materials.

The Music at Noon series presents weekly concerts designed to accommodate lunch-break attendance. Admission is free, though a voluntary offering is accepted.

Music at Noon: Makiko Hirata, piano will run on Wednesday, January 28 at 12:10 p.m.–12:40 p.m. Pasadena Presbyterian Church, 585 E. Colorado Blvd., Pasadena. For more information, call (626) 793-2191 or visit https://www.ppc.net/musicatnoon.
