Art aficionados will gather for an evening of creative exploration when The Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens opens its gallery doors after hours on Wednesday, Nov. 5, for “Drawing from the Gallery.” From 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., participants will move between the Virginia Steele Scott Galleries of American Art and the Huntington Art Gallery of European Art, sketching directly from masterworks in the institution’s permanent collections.

Southern California painter Robert Sherrill will guide the session, leading artists of all skill levels through exercises in line work, shading, perspective, and composition. “Join a special after-hours art lesson inspired by our permanent collections, where teaching artists will lead participants in exploring different drawing techniques,” the event description reads. All supplies and materials are provided, and gallery stools are available for those who prefer to sit while they draw. Advance tickets are $45 for the public and $35 for Huntington members; no door sales will be offered, and cancellations made at least five days prior to the event will receive full refunds.

By transforming gallery spaces into interactive classrooms, “Drawing from the Gallery” spotlights The Huntington’s commitment to enriching lives through art and knowledge. The program offers a rare chance to engage with artworks in an intimate setting and to deepen personal connections with European and American masterpieces that rarely see the glare of studio lights.

“Drawing from the Gallery” will run on Wednesday, Nov. 5, from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at The Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens, 1151 Oxford Road in San Marino.
