All Saints Church in Pasadena will hold multiple worship services and community events this Sunday, March 23, coinciding with the Third Sunday in Lent.
Tim Rich, Priest In Charge, will preach at both the 7:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. services, according to the church’s weekly schedule.
The Coventry Choir will perform Hella Johnson’s Requiem and a Ukrainian Prayer to Jesus during the services.
Following the devastation of the Eaton Fire, which has significantly altered the local landscape, the church’s 9 a.m. Faith, Formation and Fellowship session will feature L.A. Voice. The multi-racial, multi-faith advocacy group has been researching ways to support fire victims through public advocacy efforts.
The session will be available both in-person in the Guild Room and online.
Children’s programming will run concurrently with adult services, with Children’s Chapel available during the 10 a.m. service for kindergarten through fifth grade students. Activities will include music, arts and crafts, meditation, storytelling and spiritual practices designed specifically for young participants.
Parents are always welcome to join.
Childcare for infants and toddlers will be provided from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Seminar Room and Small Lounge in Regas House. Families using childcare are advised to register in the All Saints system and sign children in and out during each session.
A coffee hour will follow the 10 a.m. service with greeter Jenn McGaw.
The church’s Racial Justice Ministry will host a special event honoring two Episcopalian women: The Rev. Dr. Pauli Murray and The Rev. Zelda Kennedy. The session, running from noon to 1:30 p.m., will feature video clips highlighting Murray’s accomplishments despite facing racism, sexism and gender identity struggles.
The event will also include testimonials about Kennedy’s ministry at All Saints, and a call to action to protest the removal of Pauli Murray’s biographical information from the webpage for the Murray family home in Durham, a National Historic Landmark.
Internet archives show that the webpage was edited last month to remove the words “queer” and “transgender” – and Murray’s biography page was removed altogether, the church said.
A light lunch will be served to attendees. To RSVP, interested individuals should email rjmascpas@gmail.com.
Additional afternoon programming includes the Journey of Faith-Sharing Group at noon in the OCC (Office for Creative Connections) Conference Room. The group offers a space to “connect with others through genuine conversations about journeys of faith” with no commitments or sign-ups required.
The Circle of Life Support Group will meet via Zoom at 2:30 p.m., specifically for those living with the declining health of someone they love. The group meets on the fourth Sunday of the month until 4 p.m.
At 4 p.m., a Zoom bible study titled “Reclaiming the Bible” aims to “heal and move beyond the misunderstanding, confusion, hurtful interpretation, oppression, and other ways our bible has been used against us.” For access, contact Dr. Charles Foster at drcharlesfoster@icloud.com.
The day will conclude with Jazz Vespers at 5 p.m. featuring the John Clayton Trio on the Chancel. Clayton, a Grammy winner with nine additional nominations, has collaborated with numerous high-profile artists including Paul McCartney, Diana Krall, and Queen Latifah.
There is no charge and no reservations are required, with validated parking available in Plaza las Fuentes.
All services will be available via livestream on the church’s website, Facebook page, and YouTube channel. The 9 a.m., 10 a.m., and 5 p.m. services will all be accessible online for those unable to attend in person.
