All Saints Church to Host Forum on Navigating Grief and Loss

Jonathan Stoner, interim director and chaplain, to lead discussion on compassionate care
Published on Jul 31, 2024

All Saints Church in Pasadena will host a forum on Sunday, Aug. 4 titled “Summer Sunday: Caring Compassionately – Navigating Grief, Loss, and Major Life Transitions.” The event, part of the church’s weekly Sunday Forum Series, will be led by Jonathan Stoner, the Interim Director of Children, Youth & Families at All Saints Church.

Stoner, who also serves as a spiritual care provider at City of Hope Comprehensive Cancer Center, will share insights on nurturing one’s own heart while supporting others through challenging life seasons. The forum aims to teach effective emotional and spiritual care strategies through interactive discussions.

The event will take place in the Guild Room of All Saints Church, located at 132 N Euclid Ave. in Pasadena.

Stoner brings a unique background to his role, having discovered his calling as a hospital chaplain after working nights at a busy trauma center in Los Angeles. He attended Fuller Theological Seminary, where he received his Master of Divinity in June 2017, and was ordained as an Episcopal priest in January 2024.

At City of Hope, Stoner facilitates bereavement support groups for those grieving the loss of loved ones to cancer and leads the Caregivers Connect group. His work focuses on caring for patients, partners, and providers as they navigate sickness and suffering.

Originally from West Michigan, Stoner’s path to spiritual care was unconventional. He initially pursued a career in filmmaking, majoring in Film Studies in college. His love for cinema and live theater continues to influence his approach to pastoral care. Stoner also enjoys getting lost in fantasy novels and singing along with his favorite bands on long road trips.

The forum is open to the public and offers an opportunity for community members to learn and share experiences related to compassionate care.
