Pasadena teens looking for a low-pressure place to make art after school can head to Allendale Branch Library for “Library Art Collective: A Teen Creative Hour,” a free program described by Pasadena Public Library as “an art focused study hall where you’ll get to work on your own projects.”

The Library Art Collective invites teen participants to “focus on your latest masterpiece or share work with your peers. Inspiration and some art materials provided but bringing your own is encouraged. For Teens only.” The session is part of the library system’s broader teen services initiative serving youth ages 12–18.

The small neighborhood branch, which opened in 1951, occupies a remodeled adobe ranch-style building originally constructed as an isolation hospital in the 1920s. It sits across the street from Blair High School and features a fireplace, wide windows, a door opening to a fenced patio and another to a picnic park area with a playground.

The Library Art Collective adds to a slate of teen-focused offerings across Pasadena Public Library, including the Teen Advisory Board, monthly gaming programs at Hastings Branch, the Pasadena Loves YA book festival and the levelUP youth conference. The Teen Advisory Board’s mission is “to provide teens in the community with support through educational and entertaining events, opportunities, and resources, while closing the achievement gap and preparing teens for a successful and fulfilling life.”

For accessibility information or to request accommodations, participants are directed to contact the library with at least 72 hours advance notice.

Library Art Collective: A Teen Creative Hour will run on Friday, Jan. 23, at 3:45 to 5 p.m. at Allendale Branch Library, 1130 South Marengo Ave., Pasadena. For more information, call (626) 744-7260 or visit https://www.cityofpasadena.net/library/?trumbaEmbed=view%3Devent%26eventid%3D194048947.
