Altadena Arts and Eliot Arts Magnet Schools Announce Second Art Walk

Published on Apr 4, 2022

Altadena Arts and Eliot Arts Magnet schools in Altadena are now preparing to hold their second joint annual Art Walk event on May 12 after a two-year postponement due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The first joint Art Walk was held April 3, 2019.

Art Walk is a dual campus event featuring a curated selection of student artwork and student performances. Guests – including parents from both schools – will begin their experience at about 5:30 p.m. at Altadena Arts Magnet, at 743 E. Calaveras Street, and stroll over to Eliot Arts Magnet, at 2184 Lake Ave.

The event will also celebrate Altadena Arts Magnet School being named a Nationally Certified Demonstration Magnet School, an announcement from Altadena Arts Magnet said.

“So much has happened since that amazing Altadena Arts Magnet Ribbon Cutting Event back in March of 2020,” the announcement said. “We have managed to provide a seamless Arts Magnet program both online and now back in person. COVID did not stop our growth. In fact our enrollment has doubled in size!”

Altadena Arts Magnet has also partnered with Eliot Arts Magnet as a Pre-K-8 Arts Magnet articulated arts and French program, with Dr. Benita Scheckel as Executive Principal.

Dr. Scheckel partnered with Eliot Arts principal Lori Touloumian in planning and pushing through with the 2019 Art Walk.

Altadena Arts Magnet serves students from pre-kindergarten to 5th Grade, while Eliot Arts serves middle school students. Both schools offer an array of music, dance, theater arts, and visual arts courses in state-of-the-art facilities, including a dance studio and video-recording studio where students learn from professionals.

The Armory Center for the Arts in Pasadena will also showcase student artwork created in the Altadena Arts Integration Professional Development Program, which integrates art with science, math, history, and English.

The Altadena Arts PTA and Eliot Arts Parent Teacher Student Association are both actively supporting the event.

Art Walk on May 12 is from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and is free for the public to attend.
