Eaton Fire survivors can pick up free fresh produce at the Altadena Library on Wednesday, January 28, continuing a partnership that has sustained the community through nearly a year of recovery.
The Altadena Library District is hosting the Community Food Distribution in the Main Library parking lot, providing bags of fresh produce courtesy of Hollywood Food Coalition. Supplies are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
The January 28 distribution marks the latest in a series of weekly food assistance events that began in September, reflecting persistent community need more than one year after the January 7 Eaton Fire killed 19 people and destroyed 9,414 structures in Altadena, according to CAL FIRE.
Hollywood Food Coalition, a nonprofit founded in 1987, has hosted 16 mobile pantries in Altadena in recent months. The organization’s mission is “to nourish the community by rescuing and distributing food, preparing nightly meals, and uniting efforts to achieve food equity.”
The Altadena Library District faces severe fiscal challenges from the fire’s impact, with the library’s Fiscal Year 2025/26 budget projecting a $194,750 deficit. Property tax revenue declined 31% from $3,587,700 to $2,492,900.
Community Food Distribution will run on Wednesday, Jan. 28 at 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Altadena Library Main Library Parking Lot, 600 E. Mariposa Street, Altadena, California. For more information, call (626) 798-0833 or visit www.altadenalibrary.org.
