Residents can learn hands-on seed processing techniques at a free workshop Tuesday evening at the Altadena Library, part of a broader effort to build community food security and preserve agricultural knowledge.
The Seed Processing Workshop runs from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on December 3 at the Altadena Library at the Loma Alta Park, 3330 N Lincoln Ave. Nina Raj, founder of the Altadena Seed Library, will lead the session.
Participants will work directly with soil and seeds, learning practical preservation techniques. Attendees should wear clothes they’re comfortable getting dirty.
The workshop connects to a growing movement to preserve agricultural biodiversity through community-based seed libraries. The Altadena Seed Library project has expanded across Los Angeles neighborhoods, offering free access to seeds while teaching residents self-sufficiency skills.
Seed saving represents both traditional ecological knowledge and a practical response to contemporary food security challenges. The workshop transforms library space into an active learning environment, enabling participants to develop skills they can share within their own communities.
Colorful seed library boxes are now distributed throughout Altadena, providing free seeds to residents while supporting the broader seed library network.
The event is free and open to the public.
