Teens looking for a creative fall activity can transform ordinary bookshelves into gateways to other worlds at an upcoming Altadena Library District program.

The free Book Nooks for Teens workshop takes place Friday, Nov. 14, from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Altadena Library at Loma Alta Park, where participants in grades eight through 12 will create their own miniature dioramas designed to fit between books on a shelf.

“Come make your own book nook with other Teens & get excited for the Fall season,” according to the library’s event description. “All supplies will be included. Registration is required!”

Book nooks — also called bookshelf inserts or bookshelf dioramas — are miniature scenes that sit snugly between books, transforming standard shelving into artistic displays.

All materials will be provided. Teens must register in advance to attend the DIY and Crafting program.

The Altadena Library District is an independent special district formed in December 1926 and governed by a locally elected Board of Library Trustees. The organization operates on the mission to bring “people and ideas together.”

Both the Main Library at 600 E. Mariposa St. and the Bob Lucas Memorial Library at 2659 Lincoln Ave. survived the January Eaton Fire. The Main Library reopened March 4 after two months of closure, while Bob Lucas Memorial Library celebrated a grand reopening Aug. 16 following 16 months of renovation funded by Proposition Z bond proceeds.

Book Nooks for Teens will run on Friday, Nov. 14, at 4-5:30 p.m. Altadena Library at Loma Alta Park, 3330 N Lincoln Ave, Altadena. For more information, call (626) 798-0833 or visit https://www.altadenalibrary.org/programs?trumbaEmbed=view%3Devent%26eventid%3D190759510. Ticket prices: Free.
