The event is part of “Altadena Revealed: A Community History Series,” which aims to deepen public understanding of Altadena’s past through educational programming. The film explores the legacy of Owen Brown, son of abolitionist John Brown, and his connection to Altadena’s civic and cultural history.
“This film was created to support student learning and teacher development,” the Owen Brown Gravesite Committee stated in its event announcement. “It is aligned with California educational standards and was developed in collaboration with Pasadena Unified School District curriculum experts and historian William Deverell.”
Commissioned by the Gravesite Committee, the film was designed as a classroom resource and community engagement tool. It was previously screened at John Muir High School on March 7 in a free community event where doors opened at 6 p.m.
The Owen Brown Gravesite was officially designated a Los Angeles County Historic Landmark on Dec. 10 following a unanimous vote by the Board of Supervisors. The nomination was submitted in February and reviewed by the Historical Landmarks and Records Commission in July.
Attendees are encouraged to park in the library’s main lot. For accessible entry to the Community Room, patrons should call (626) 798-0833 upon arrival. The Altadena Main Library is located at 600 E. Mariposa St. in Altadena.
Please note: While Pasadena Heritage lists the event as running from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., the Foothill Catalog Foundation indicates a 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. duration. Attendees may wish to plan accordingly.
